Sidebar Fixed And Wordpress Customisation

My sidebar is fixed and the contents are no longer hanging over … whew. Don’t worry, it didn’t take me 2 days :) I am working on my husband’s site at the moment, but he can’t decide on a theme. You can check it out here to see where we are at now and keep checking to see how we get on.

One of the best things about wordpress is that you can change your theme in about 10 seconds flat. This allows your blog/website to reflect your mood. The problem though is that not all themes are created equal. There are two column, three column, widget ready, non widget ready, full screen, part screen etc… Most themes will need some customisation unless you are literally using your site to blog about your life in general. Even my personal blog KellyIfrah.com is being customised (I know trying to do too many things at once as always). The important thing to remember is that everyone had to learn from scratch and start somewhere. My two best tips for anyone customising a wordpress theme are …

1) Only change ONE thing at a time, that way if you break the theme you can go back straight away and fix it.

2) Use an editor that you allows you to do unlimited undos so that if you break something you can change it back. Notepad for example only lets you undo the last thing you did. I use Dreamweaver which does allow you unlimited undos.

Don’t be afraid to have a go because you never know what you can do before you try it. It is a bit like a new food, you don’t know if you like it or not before you try it :)
