I Think I Am A Wordpressaholic

Hope you had a nice weekend.

You may have noticed, I have changed my theme yet again, I also spent about $200 in paid plugins over the weekend.

This is seriously damaging my profits, but I can’t seem to stay away

I just saw the confessions of a shopaholic film and I can kind of relate to her, only mine is online stuff whereas hers is designer clothes. I am usually really good about things and I always ask … Do I Really Need It? I normally answer no and do not buy it, BUT when it comes to wordpress related stuff I tend to say, well yes, I do

I think I need to see someone, anyone know a WPAA group (Wordpressaholics Anonymous)?

This logo is actually for a radio station broadcasting from the campus of Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts, but it is exactly what I was looking for.

Does Having Lots Of DoFollow Links Mean Your Page Rank Could Be Penalized?

This seems to be an unanswered question dating back to the beginning of 2007 and before. Many people have talked about loosing page rank due to outgoing links in case they were paid links, but personally I have not been affected.

As of today this site is a page rank 3 and nothing has changed with regards to dofollow and nofollow in my links. At present only my recent comments are nofollow and this is only on the home page (index page).

As it is supposed to be better for you to have no dofollow links on your site except on your home page I thought I would try an experiment with one of my niche blog sites.

So I did everything I could except make my blogroll links nofollow. I did the normal thing and did a google search for an answer, but only got details on how to change files to allow you to tick a box for the links to be nofollow. I did not want to do that as apart from it being too time consuming it means changing the relevant file every time there is an upgrade and at the moment there seem to be quite a few.

My next stop was the plugin directory at wordpress.org and here, after ploughing through a bunch of completely irrelevant plugins I found the right one by a guy called Andrew Shell. You can read about the plugin directly on his blog (click on his name). It is a simple plugin that does the job perfectly, with no bells and whistles, which is to let you select which blogroll links you want to be nofollow.

So the next time you are searching google for how to do something in wordpress and the answer is not forthcoming, think about the wordpress plugin direcory as although there is a minefield of plugins, there is more than likely one that will do the job for you.

I did think about doing one post about my favourite plugins, but I have so many it is hard to choose my favourite, so at some point I will set up a category and write about each one as and when I find them.

Wordpress 2.7 Is Unveiled In All It’s Glory

I had read a few worrying reports about upgrading to wordpress 2.7 so was a little skeptical about how it would go, but I have to tell you I have now upgraded 20 or so blogs and not had one single issue. I upgraded in the normal way, deleted the files as per the wordpress.org site, uploaded all the new files and clicked to upgrade the database. All my plugins are working and all my themes look beautiful.

Bye bye old dashboard. I included a photo just for old times sake A wealth of knowledge has been shared about the beauty and speed of the NEW admin panel, but nothing prepares you for what is nothing short of a piece of art. There is at least one redundant plugin that I know of, which is the one that made the admin menu’s have a dropdown style. No longer needed I’m afraid. Bad news for them, but god for us bloggers, the less plugins the better.

I have included some links below that I think you will find interesting, in the mentime I am designing some new themes, long overdue, and will of course ensure they are wordpress 2.7 compatible.

Speaking of themes, I wrote a while ago about wordpress 2.7 having a new theme included, but it is not in my download. I like the theme a lot, so go take a look, if you like it you can download it and use it yourself. I must have been confused about it, I was sure that was what it meant, but maybe it has been included over at wordpress.com.
